Vibrio fischeri

is a gram-negative, rod-shaped bacterium found globally in marine environments. A. fischeri has bioluminescent properties, and is found predominantly in symbiosis with various marine animals, such as the bobtail squid. It is heterotrophic and moves by means of flagella. Free-living A. fischeri cells survive on decaying organic matter. The bacterium is a key research organism for examination of microbial bioluminescence, quorum sensing, and bacterial-animal symbiosis. It is named after Bernhard Fischer, a German microbiologist.

Zika virus©

Zika virus disease is caused by a virus transmitted by

Aedes mosquitoes.First identified in Uganda in 1947.

Genre: Flavivirus Like other flaviviruses, Zika virus is

enveloped and icosahedral and has a nonsegmented, single-stranded,

positive-sense RNA genome. Zika virus is diagnosed through

PCR (polymerase chain reaction) and virus isolation from blood samples.

The vertebrate hosts of the virus were primarily monkeys in a so-called enzootic mosquito-monkey-mosquito cycle,

The most common symptoms of Zika virus disease are fever, rash, joint pain, and conjunctivitis (red eyes). The illness is usually mild with symptoms lasting from several days to a week. Severe disease requiring hospitalization is uncommon There is no vaccine to prevent or specific medicine to treat Zika infections.

Først og fremst et forkjølelsesvirus, kan forårsake diarè hos barn,

atypisk pneumoni (SARS, servere acute respiratory syndrome).Dråpe, kontakt og luftsmitte. Inkubasjonstid 2-7dager, opptil 10dager. Symptomer: feber, uvelhet,

frysninger, hodepine, myalgi, svimmelhet, (influensasymptomer)Neste fase; åndenødssyndrom. Total dødelighet (SARS)3-4%.Ingen vaksine,

Escheriachia coli ©

This is a Gram-negative rod belonging to the Enterobacteriaceae family.

The bacteria was first detected in 1940 (EPECH).The E. coli are mobile bacteria

because of flagellas on the cell surface. It is found in large amounts in the colon of humans and animals, usually not a pathogenic micro-organism. E. coli can cause

infections such as urinary tract infections, diarrhoea, and neonatal meningitis and

wound infections. The transmission is by direct- and indirect contact (faecal-oral), through contaminated food and

poor hygiene. Infections can be treated with antibiotics.
